The Sea of Silk designs accessories using artisan techniques and home-grown materials. Customisable, original and unique pieces with one common thread: SILK.
Monica explains the manufacturing process of her pieces and her beginnings:
“We have had silkworms at home for a few years now. Every spring my children feed them and see their short life cycle first-hand. Every summer we throw away the hatched cocoons. These cocoons, which are raw silk, can be treated and dyed.”
As we like natural raw materials, the use of colour and beautiful things, we decided to set up a small workshop for handmade and customisable accessories, with a common thread: SILK. The dyeing process was the biggest problem we encountered, how to dye evenly without losing the glue that stiffens the silk cocoon. Once this issue was solved, all that was left for us was the fun part, the design.”
In addition to hand-dyed silk cocoons, they use semi-precious stones, silver, steel, leather and natural dyes, making their pieces UNIQUE in terms of shape and color. At Mar de Seda you can find different types of earrings, necklaces, rings, cufflinks and even hairpins.
