Cristina began her adventure 30 years ago, when she found in her grandmother's sewing machine the perfect instrument to give free rein to her sensitivity for design and fashion.
It was a long time before the game (or hobby) became a real project. Life took me to Mexico, where I studied Fashion Design at the Instituto Tecnológico de Diseño de Modas in Irapuato (how do you feel about that?), and then to Boston, where I continued my studies at the School of Fashion Design and collaborated with Dress for Success, an association that offers women a network of support and advice so that they can achieve the place they deserve in their work and professional life, through fashion. All these experiences materialized in Delchel, a project that brings together the learning of artisanal techniques, the richness of different cultures and the personal concern of keeping this legacy alive through a sustainable business model that respects people and our world.
The first collection of Delchel It is dedicated to Teófila and her companions, brave Mexican women who make these beautiful embroideries to contribute to their community and preserve their culture.
Embroideries that tell stories Mrs. Teófila is an artisan from Michoacán, Mexico, who has been embroidering dances, customs and everyday scenes from her land on cotton canvases since she was 12 years old, alongside other women.
They have turned this beautiful way of preserving their culture into one of the main economic activities in the region, and that has made them strong and independent women within their community. Dressing one of these stories can be your way of making them visible and helping them spread their message further.
