Nikarit is a social enterprise of natural cosmetics with shea, managed by volunteers from the NGO OAN International. Its aim is to empower women shea producers in Nikki (Benin, Africa), by promoting fair and sustainable trade of shea butter.
The biggest difficulty faced by shea butter producers in Benin, and Nikki in particular, is finding a market to sell their products. In Spain, however, shea butter is a highly sought-after product. In addition, there are more and more consumers interested in responsible trade and natural cosmetics.
Through the project NIKARIT They want to connect the Beninese supply of shea butter with the demand for this product in Spain through a social entrepreneurship model. To do this, they buy shea butter produced by women's cooperatives in Benin in a completely artisanal way, selling it in Spain and reinvesting all the profits obtained in development cooperation projects that take place in the communities with which they collaborate.
The aim is to contribute to the autonomy of women in these communities, so that they become a driving force for change in their communities and can improve their living conditions and those of their families.
TRIPLE SOCIAL IMPACT
- They buy shea butter directly from women's cooperatives in Nikki. This provides a source of income that enables the women in these cooperatives to take care of their families' health care and their children's education.
- They promote responsible consumption in Spain, raising awareness of the reality of the communities of origin and fostering a critical, supportive and committed spirit among consumers.
- Proceeds from trading are donated entirely to development projects for the Nikki community, through OAN International.
The products include hand cream, lip balms and pure shea butter with high moisturizing power suitable for all skin types and dry hair. They also have very affordable prices.
