The Smevt-Daar makes artistic material from recycled materials.
Its designer, Sofía Martínez Elduayen, has academic training in the world of Fine Arts and Design and her work experience has focused on two fields:
The world of images, graphic design, Web, multimedia presentations, e-learning, UX design, etc.
This is how Sofia tells us about her creative project:
“I had always believed that creating had to be part of a process. Maybe it was because of my dyslexia and the confusion that the similarity between the words process and procedure caused me. Or maybe it was because of the environment in which we live, where everything has to have a reason and a purpose, generally commercial.
I dedicated myself to creating procedures and looking for creative procedures. I took courses of all kinds and to follow each one of them I created an Excel spreadsheet.
Along the way, I created. Some of my works were procedural, others were wild, and it was precisely the latter that I enjoyed the most, although once they were finished, because they lacked discourse, they ended up at the bottom of a drawer and I only showed them to those who came to visit.
It wasn't until I got rid of the procedures that I let out what's inside me and looked with new eyes at everything I had created without direction, simply for the pleasure of doing it. And it turned out that I found it beautiful and functional.
This is the result of what I do, which is nothing more than taking advantage of what I have at my disposal and enjoying the process.”
Sofia creates her pieces with materials that would end up generating non-degradable waste, to which she adds other natural materials such as seeds, wood or stones. With these she makes jewelry or small sculptures that tell stories of people, usually women.
The works of The Smevt-DAAR They carry pieces of various souls, that of the one who created the first object for its functional purpose, that of his own who recycled it, and a little bit of the spirit of nature to remind us that we do not live alone on this planet.
